Dragon Messages

Dragons come with generic messages pre-set, but changing them adds a nice personal touch. To view the messages on your dragon, type '@messages <dragon dbref>. A description of what each message does can be found below, but the best way to be sure you've set a message right is to grab a friend and do whatever action triggers the message, then have them tell you what they see.

You'll also notice the messages contain pronouns. You can learn what each pronoun does by typing 'help pronouns' on the game, or by going here.

Motile Messages:

These messages are what gets said when your dragon moves around

Examples:

  • @motile #2000 is "shuffles gracefully, honey-tipped tail swish-swishing behind her,"
  • @water_motile #2000 is "paddles awkwardly"
  • @fly_motile #2000 is "sweeps her wings powerfully, allowing the available light to catch the jewel-tones of her hide,"

Take/Drop:

There are also take and drop messages. These are usually garbage because there are no instances when you would pick your dragon up! However, if you want to set this message, feel free.

Examples:

  • @drop_failed #2000 is "You can't seem to drop %t here."
  • @drop_succeeded #2000 is "You drop %t."
  • @odrop_failed #2000 is "tries to drop %t but fails!"
  • @odrop_succeeded #2000 is "blinks in surprise as %t appears, as if out of thin air."
  • @otake_succeeded #2000 is "picks up %t."
  • @otake_failed #2000 isn't set.
  • @take_succeeded #2000 is "You take %t."
  • @take_failed #2000 is "You can't pick that up."

_failed & _succeeded are what get called if your take/drop fails or succeeds. You'll notice there's more than one take/drop message. The odrop/otake messages are what other people see. The normal take/drop are what you see.

Inprefix:

This is what people see when you are on top of your dragon and they are on the ground.

Example:

  • @inprefix #2000 is "Nestled between %t's glittering, pale neckridges,"

would yield:
Nestled between Dhiammarath's glittering, pale neckridges, Hannah does a jig.

Mount/Dismount:

These are the messages produced when you mount and dismount. Again the omount and odismount are what others see and the mount/dismount are what you see.

Examples:

  • @omount #2000 is "%T lowers one iridescent, pale forearm, allowing %N to scamper up and grab ahold of %o neck. With a slight lunge, %N finally settles %r between white-gold neckridges."
  • @odismount #2000 is "After %N releases the straps, %T stretches out one pale, iridescent forearm allowing %o to scoot down that pale hide. With a final release of grip, %N falls the little ways down to the ground."
  • @mount #2000 is "%T lowers one iridescent, pale forearm, allowing you to scamper up and grab ahold of %o neck. With a slight lunge, you finally settles yourself between white-gold neckridges."
  • @dismount #2000 is "After you release the straps, %T stretches out one pale, iridescent forearm allowing you to scoot down that pale hide. With a final release of grip, you fall the little ways down to the ground."

Between:

These are what you see when a dragon goes between and comes from between.

Examples:

  • @go_btw #2000 is "spirals into ::between:: leaving a wake of glittery jewel tones!"

would yield:
Dhiammarath spirals into ::between:: leaving a wake of glittery jewel tones!

  • @from_btw #2000 is "appears in a rush of irridescent white-gold from ::between:: trailing a wake of sparkly jewel-tones!"

would yield:
Dhiammarath appears in a rush of irridescent white-gold from ::between:: trailing a wake of sparkly jewel-tones!

@Who Location:

This is what shows up on the who listings.

Example:

  • @who_location #2000 is "Riding the desert sands with %t"

would yield:
Player name Connected Idle time Location
--- -— --- ----
Hannah (#18654) 18 minutes 0 seconds IstaW: Riding the desert sands…

@Astride:

Example:

  • @astride #2000 is "Precariously perched betwixt pale, white-gold neckridges is %t"

This is what people see when they look at your dragon and someone is riding him/her.

Straps:

This is what you'll set your straps description to.

Example:

  • @straps #2000 is "Snow white leather weaves itself through the series of silver buckles and awl punched holes. The leathers wrap around the fourth and fifth neckridges with a shiny silver buckle that is set right in the center of her white-gold neck. A single stone of each jewel — jade, ruby, and sapphire — flank each side of the shiny silver buckle, for an overall total of six stones. This gives the straps a glitterly appearance when the pair are in the air. Pure, white fleece peeks out from beneath the pure white leathers that set off the gold's pale hide. The single loop of leather for the rider's strap is of the same pale shade of white with a slight addition of honey-gold dye, while passenger loops are the same snow white, but with striations of the deepest sapphire."

Miscellaneous:

These are miscellaneous messages that you don't really need to worry about.

  • @atop #2000 is "Nestled between %t's glittering, pale neckridges,"

This is like the inprefix.

  • @nomount #2000 is "You can't seem to mount %t."
