Kirczykath

Congratulations Mallory on impressing a dragon here at Ista Weyr! We hope that he is everything that you could want in a lifemate, though this inspiration is just a guideline for how to play your dragon. You are not required to follow all or any of it. The dragon is /yours/. Members of SearchCo have put many hours into the creation of your dragon, and we are excited to see how you develop the personality in your own, unique way. – Martin

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Egg:

Everything about this egg is gorgeous—from the blond waves that don the topside all the way down the bronzen hue that darkens in makeshift ripples, especially along the front where it could almost resemble a six pack of abs. There's a shimmer of white set beneath two strikingly blue orb-like blotches above the ripples, surely not seen as a flaw in this overly-beautiful egg.

Hatching Message:

I Can’t believe It’s Not Butter Egg quivers and shivers. It wavers and wobbles. It creaks and cracks. With a final crash like the drop of a dragonweight by a bodybuilder who can no longer hold the weight, the bronze egg cracks right down the middle of the abdominal coloration. Half of the egg flies to the right and the other half to the left, and Because Good Is Dumb Bronze Dragonet emerges, flexing his wings and neck like Mr. Pern.

Because Good Is Dumb Bronze Dragonet:

Oxidized bronze dapples the whipcord-thin neck and limbs of this dragon, so dark as to be almost blue-black in splotches. Little is delicate or refined about him, except perhaps his natural form of motion, which is perhaps surprisingly intentional. His hide is perhaps stretched too thin over parts of him, his aquiline nose and narrow, curved-back headknobs are dipped in tarnish, only his jowls and under-throat fading to a bright, almost red copper. Even the tip of his muzzle and bottom jaw are dipped in the inky darkness, lending a sinister appearance, which might have been avoided with so simple a feat as lighter coloration. Color dribbles darkly along his spine, feet and talons so dark they look nearly gloved. Almost in rebellion to tradition, his wingsails dip darker than any other portion of his hide, more than just reminiscent of a black cloak flying in the wind. Neckridges and the very tip of his tail resemble the red-bronze of his jaws and underbelly, though tail tucked under a wing and his chin pulled in tight, the bronze would virtually disappear in the dark.

Impression Message:

Because Good Is Dumb Bronze Dragonet slinks further down along the line of candidates, sniffing at this one and ignoring that one. Certainly, the one he is looking for is just beyond his reach. He moves with definite intention, stepping on feet when they don't get out of his way quickly enough, and even knocking one candidate over before coming up behind coltish boy with dark, curling hair and nudging at his lower back.

Personal Impression Message:

Your mind staggers and you suddenly feel as though you've been smacked from behind with a very large plank of wood. Maybe even an entire bronze statue. The ringing in your ears subsides and the scent of metal and rain takes over, followed by a dark crimson and bronze bulk somewhere just beyond your peripheral vision. Soft tones of blue-black tarnished bronze in a strange accent curl around your mind and state with simplicity, « I am Kirczykath…and you are the one I was searching for. »

And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

I know it aches
How your heart it breaks
And you can only take so much
Walk on, walk on

Leave it behind
You got to leave it behind
All that you fashion
All that you make
All that you build
All that you break
All that you measure
All that you feel
All this you can leave behind
All that you reason
All that you sense
All that you speak
All you dress-up
All that you scheme…

Name Inspiration:

Mallory, of Morte d'Arthur fame, being one of the best known writers in history just begged for a good, strong, Russian-sounding counterpart. Kirczykath (KEER-chi-kath) sounded right—somewhat intimidating with a fair number of "odd" letters, and dominated by hard consonant sounds fit well with Mal'ry or A'lory. There isn't any definable meaning behind it, but it's a strong, confident name to fit the Mallory's lifemate and maybe help his rider find a little more confidence.

The hatchling name is, of course, taken from the infamous Dark Helmet: "So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

Egg Inspiration:

The inspiration? Fabio of Pern. Need I say more?

Description:

It was mostly you. And when I started looking for images I found this one which spoke to me. Kind of the "dark horse" theme:

Mind Voice

Larry Mullen Jr.! Well, very close to him, anyway, with just a touch of Hans Gruber. Kirczykath's voice is a little metallic though fairly mellifluous. The higher tones in a bass guitar, the golds and brownish reds of autumn leaves, and the resonance of a long-distance echo all color his mind voice. There's a bit of an accent in there, too…maybe Bitran…maybe more in the Keroon sector…I suppose in Earth terms we'd call the accent 'Irish.'

Physicalities

You said in your questionnaire: "I'd like to see a dragon that's fairly long and lean, but not really huge. I don't need the Biggest Dragon Evah. No Mnementh for me, please. It'd even be nice to have one that's just a bit awkward, physically. I like darker shades of bronze, kind of creepy looking, and the likes. He doesn't need to be pretty, my dragon – he needs to be effective."

Well, you get your wish. He will always be a little on the wiry side, maybe even a little scrappy for a bronze. He isn't exceptionally small, but a large, heavy brown could outweigh him without trying very hard. This is very handy for maneuverability in Threadflight and mating flights. However, he may not have the most stamina of any bronze, which leads to his innovation, particularly in mating flights. If a human, he may have been the skinny, dorky kid in high school who, once grown, is the sleek, lithe guy all the girls want to go out with—though it may seem they're just attracted to him for his money. As a dragon, he is interesting to look at more than anything, but he gets the job done.

Personality:

Kirczykath coming into Mallory's life is more than just the biggest turning point. It is the biggest influencer, biggest driver, and where some dragons are content to cling to the edges of their lifemate's mind and speak to them when emotions run high, Kirczykath will be there every moment, listening through your ears, sifting through your thought processes, and constantly, constantly calculating.

Like Larry Mullen Jr., he's the conceptualizer of plots and plotting. He's also the go-to guy. While other people are /talking/ about getting something done, Kirczykath is already walking out the door - or weyr - to get it done. That doesn't mean he's hyper or excessively chatty. When he has something to say, he says it. When he doesn't have anything to say, he doesn't feel the need to go on and on. Still waters run deep, and though he may be bronze, he believes in doing the right thing, and displays an ever-present drive to improve himself.

In fact, Kirczykath is much more reticent. You may expect people to go, "Ooh lookie! A big bronze dragon!" But in fact he is content to hide in the shadows - lurk even - and may even tend toward the cloak-and-dagger mentality.

Not that Kirczykath is really evil. The other part of his personality is similar to Mallory's own Red Knight from the Tale of Gareth. Gareth finally arrives at Lyonesse's castle, where she is besieged by the Sir Ironside, Red Knight of the Red Lands. He fights him, which takes all day, and finally prevails, although the Red Knight had the strength of seven men. He originally intends to kill him, as the Red Knight slaughtered all the other knights who came to save the lady Lyonesse. However, the Red Knight explains that he was doing so because the lady he loved made him swear to kill Lancelot, and the only way to get his attention was to kill the knights.

He may look that way and act evil, but like the little flecks of red-bronze that show on his underside, his heart is pure bronzeergold. Especially when it comes to you. In fact, he would beg, borrow, or steal to keep you happy, though dragons don't lie, and anything that might be perceived as underhanded always has a solid gold motive behind it—his love for you. He is the one behind the scenes, working the strings and encouraging you when you're not sure of the next step. He's the one there to tell you, "Walk on."

Where other dragons are concerned, he will be very well-liked. After all, dragons don't judge quite so much based on appearance. He is quick-witted and intelligent, though he keeps many of his thoughts to himself.

Think of a mixture between Larry Mullen Jr., Hans Gruber from Die Hard, and The Pin from Brick.

Flights:

Like the Mission Impossible theme, he sticks to what is tried and true. What works once will work again…and having a watch that shoots lasers never hurts. Okay, so innovation never hurt anyone…and who wants to use the same old-fashioned grappling hook when you can get a grappling gun…with a taser attached? In flights, he is highly concentrated, focusing on what he needs to do to win—no matter what. Kirczykath isn't above a little foul play, either, if the occasion calls for it. Of course…he'd never /really/ hurt another dragon…would he?

So, have you figured out the ‘theme’ to your new lifemate yet?

In coordination with the overall theme of ‘Alternative Comic Book Characters/Storyline Cliches/archtypes’ and because you mentioned wanting someone kind of "creepy" looking, Kirczykath gets to play the part of the Misunderstood Villain. In the movies, perhaps his mother died when he was young, or his best friend was killed by a cop, so he may have taken to the darker side of life, but really he's just another person searching for happiness.
