Northeastern Bowl
The northeastern arc of the Weyr Bowl seems somewhat isolated from the rest of the weyr - with necessity, for this is the training grounds for young riders and dragons, the Weyrlings. The main entrance to the weyrling barracks is just north of here, and the ground there is well-trampled and firm, as if many feet, both human and dragon, have wandered over it dozens of times a day. Further up in the northwest corner of the bowl is the waterfall, tumbling out of the Weyr face several dragonlengths above, misting the area in a rainbow glow. On the south side of the bowl lie the ashpits and firestone supplies for the entire Weyr.
Annalysa slips into the bowl, rolling pin clenched in one hand, a burlap sack in the other. She tip toes along, eyeing the lengthing shadows and wrinkling her nose at small animals. Yes. Annalysa is tunnelsnake hunting again. She seems to have spotted her prey and followed it in here. She walks quieter and quieter, until she finally brings the rolling pin down on the ground with a thwap. There's a yelp and Annly drops the kitchen utensil and sack, then bounces around like a wounded wherry. "OOOOOWWWWW!"
Ali eeks and jumps, spinning mid-air before hitting the ground once again, to find herself facing a wounded wherry? Oh, it's an Annly. "Are you alright? Can I help you, or..something?" the little rider offers, reaching over to pick the rolling pin up from the ground.
The hand hold that Annly didn't have her hand on is now shattered and laying on the ground. What ever Annly ment to hit with that missed and instead came in full contact with hard stone. Annalysa stops jumping around for a moment and just begins to rub her hand. "Ohhh.. ooooww. That stings. I don't think its serious though.." She begins to fidgit as if it made the pain go away.
Ali shuffles cautiously across the ground between herself and the wounded woman, reaching an arm out, "Do you need a little help getting back inside, or just want to sit down or something? Oh, it's your hand? But I thought.." the weyrling looks a little surprised, or confused, or something. "Um, well, can I help?"
Annalysa laughs and continues to rub her hand. "well, I was trying to hit something.. missed entirely.. and ended up sending painful vibrations up my hand and arm." She grins as it begins to fade. Good.. nothing was broken. "I dont' think I need any help, but thank you. You're Ali, right? What did you think i did?"
Nodding her head in response to the question first, then lifting her shoulders into a confused shrug, Ali seems to be completely, well, lost. "You were bouncing. I thought maybe you hurt your leg or something, but I guess you wouldn't be *bouncing* if you did, would you?" A sheepish grin replaces the look of worry and she shakes her head, "I didn't *see* what happened, just heard you."
Annalysa nods.. and grins. "Well, thank you for taking notice." she rubs the sore limb again and shakes it, trying to rid her senses of the strange sensations. Finally, she looks up and around, then shakes her head. "shards.. it got away."
"It?" Ali looks even *more* puzzled, if that's at all possible. "What were you chasing then, that managed to get away?" This little rider looks a little nervous, which she shows by stepping just a /little/ closer to the brown that stands nearby.
Annalysa wrinkles her nose.. then grins at the young rider. "Tunnelsnake." She announces it, like it meant everything, but then again, Ali candi-classed with Mhairie. She should already know what that all would entail. "I was trying to kill a tunnelsnake, but it got away. I shadow that I thought was the pesky little bugger, was a rock.. and boy did that hurt to hit."
Ali wrinkles her nose as well, clearly out of distaste for the creatures. "How about you just ask Mhairie to find it? I mean, she actually seems to *like* the things." The frown that Ali reveals show that this little rider *really* doesn't care for the slithery creatures, but alas, she's helpful. "Do you want me to help you find it?"
Annalysa shakes her head. "Nah. I was only slightly annoyed to see it in my kitchens. its slightly embaressing that I followed it this far." She blushes and straightens up. "Though.. are you any good at carving wood? this pin is going to need a new handle.
"I'm afraid not," Ali admits with a shake of her head. "Flowers I know. Dragons I'm getting to know. Carving, well, I'd probably carve up my fingers before getting a handle that would actually work for you."
Ali shuffles her boots across the ground as she takes another step backwards, leaning against Uillauth, making herself nice and cozy, or as cozy as one can while they're standing. Annly is given an somewhat confused, or odd, glance, and she shrugs her shoulders, "I'm sure there's someone around here that can carve a little piece of wood, or something, right?"
P'kar pads up from behind the brown dragon, then grins and leans agianst him as he listens to the conversation. Nothing like a little green rider listening to make things a bit more interesting.
Uillauth shifts his weight just a little as his large, chiseled head is turned enough to look at that little green rider. Ooh, he's remembered, yes he is. The question is, should he tell his Ali, or just let his Ali be surprised? Surprise is a good thing, especially when it involves a man that isn't that 'crafter. Nope, this brown didn't notice a thing. Instead, he just returns to his snoozing, and leaves everyone be.
P'kar hmms as it gets quiet, then turns and reaches up to hoist himself over the brown dragon, peeking over his saddle and at the girls on the other side.. ooh.. maybe he can pick up some gossip for the caverns tonight. That is, until he hoists too far and flips himself right over and onto his butt on the other side.
Ali jumps, for the second time in one night, several handslengths off the ground, squeaking as she does. As soon as she realizes that the form on the ground is actually a friend, she gives him a very odd stare. "P'kar? Whatever are you doing?" she asks, stretching out a hand to offer assistance so the greenrider can get back to his feet.
P'kar slips his hand into the girl's and hefts himself up to his feet, then grins and motions to the dragon, "Excersizing.. but your 'lauth has gotten too big to vault over, so I ended up tripping over him instead." Sure.. right.. uh huh..
"My 'lauth isn't exactly 'vaulting' size, I'd have to agree," Ali replies as she helps P'kar to his feet before turning to look at the not-quite-small brown that stands behind them. "C'ran says he's almost full grown. Bigger than Misumith, now, or close, isn't he?"
P'kar turns back to the vault.. er.. dragon and nods, "Mm hmm.. looks like he's ready to take to the skies for thread soon.. or for flights." Closing his eyes a moment, he grins softly before opening them again, "Misu says that he looks very handsome.. for a brown."
Ali's cheeks flush immediately at the mention of flights, obviously realizing just how near they are to becoming a reality for she and her lifemate. "Maybe he won't chase for a while still, I mean, he doesn't seem all that interested, but…" she tilts her head to look at the brown and her blush deepens, not finishing the sentence she started. "Give Misu my thanks for the compliments. I'm sure he'd return it, but he just isn't all that…interested."
P'kar shrugs softly as he grins, "Oh well.. he'll get interestead in girls eventaully." Turning back to the rider, he winks and giggles lightly, "Everyone gets interestead eventually." Using 'lauth for a leaning post, he grins and stretches, "So what's this about carving?"
Ali looks away, hoping the flush in her cheeks will disappear quickly enough for her to actually turn and look at him to speak. It doesn't, though, the pink still showing in her cheeks when she looks toward him again. "Annly broke one of the handles on her pin and she, um, needs another one?"
P'kar ohs softly, then just nods a little more, "Clothes are more my thing.. your leathers are almost done, and I'm making a couple other things with some fabric I have laying around.. won't cost you a cent." He reaches into his pack and pulls out a small piece of hide, looks over it, then grins as he puts it back in the pack, "I picked up the leather for it this morning."
Annalysa stands up from collecting the shards of wood that splintered from her cooking utensil and raises an eyebrow and watches the riders for a while, till her name is spoken in the conversation. She grins, looking cute, and scratches her head.. deciding not to speak up yet.
"Oh, do you need me to try anything on or, well, anything?" Ali queries, still struggling to regain her composure, one of the problems with being nervous around the male-types. "I um, we're supposed to show our leathers when we get them done. I already told them I wasnt making my own, but they said it's alright and all."
P'kar tilts his head and ponders, then nods, "Yeah.. I think I've got something you could try on.. but we'd have to go over to the forest pools so that you'd be able to see if it works." Eyes twinkling, he motions, "If you have time that is."
Ali looks a little wary as she cocks her head to the side, studying P'kar as if she isn't sure how to reply. Something nudges her though, probably that big brown fellow, and she shrugs, "Alright, we can do that. I've time, I mean."
Waterfall's Basin
The weyr's fresh-water pool flows clean and clear, almost undisturbed by the river that rests here after crashing down from the heights above. This small bay is neatly surrounded by a series of smooth stone steps and hidden beaches, a haven from the wider lake beyond before the water drops further to the sea below.
One gnarled, ancient tree has survived the ravages of time and Thread, reaching up towards the cliff above and the water below. A set of cruide boards makes the climb an easy one. The beach stretches, wide and warm, the waterfall quite a swim distant.
P'kar leads the girl in by the hand, grinning at the moonlight reflecting off the water as he nods, "Perfect." Turning around to face her, he pulls out a small bundle of fabric, then points to the bushes and smiles, "Go try this on so I can make sure my measurements were right."
Ali accepts the bundle with an even more confused look, but, being trusting enough of him, takes the small amount of fabric and slips towards the bushes. After a small racket and the rustling of bushes, she reappears. The brownrider seems a little unsure as she steps back into the moonlight, revealing the smooth purple bikini that was made to perfectly fit her curved form. Her smile is shy, as though she isn't sure whether she likes it or if she should hide behind the bushes again.
P'kar tilts his head and smiles softly, padding over to cut off your retreat as he looks over the bikini.. to make sure it fits right, really. Running his hands over a couple of the seams, he nods softly, "Mm hmm.. it looks like I got them just right.. it fits you perfectly." Looking up into her eyes, he grins very softly and whispers, "Gonna go swim to try it?"
Ali closes her eyes as he comes close, maybe because she's nervous, or maybe because she trusts him, neither of which even she can be positive of at the moment. "It's lovely. Thank you," she whispers quietly, wanting to show her gratitude and not knowing what else to say. When he touches the suit, which she's wearing, she steps just slightly away, the bashfulness taking over, causing her to cross her arms over her chest. "Swimming alone, at night?" she shakes her head.
P'kar tilts his head, then shrugs and starts to peel off his shirt, "I'll come swim with you.. to keep you safe." Kicking off his boots, he takes off across the sand, not even waiting for you as he dives into the water and starts to swim out towards the hanging branches.
Ali just watches him for a moment, standing there on the sand looking as though she doesn't know what to do, before finally following him with a quick, clean dive into the water. As she resurfaces, she spins around, looking to find her swimming partner in the moonlit water. "Where did you go?"
P'kar whistles softly from where he's sitting up on one of the thick branches leaning over the water, dangling his toes in the water, "Up here.. it's very pretty watching the moon rise.. and there's thread over Keroon, so the red tint is even prettier."
Ali dives beneath the surface of the water once again and swims underwater towards P'kar's voice, reappearing just beneath the branches, peeking up at him from below, her dark eyes reflecting the dim light just enough to make them sparkle. "I do like this suit, but how did you know I'd wear it?" she asks, reaching a hand up for him to assist her climb up to the branches. "Mind if I join you?"
P'kar reaches down and takes her hand, helping her up next to him as he grins, "I didn't.. I just thought you'd look very pretty in it, and I figured I'd take my chances.." Looking back at the moon, he grins and nods, "I have another one in my pack.. it was a just in case one."
Ali settles onto the branch beside him and gives him a shy smile, "I almost didn't come out. Never worn anything that shows this much before. What was the other one?" Reaching out to steady herself, she plants one hand on each side of her, wrapping her fingers across the top of the branch before daring to look up at the sky.
P'kar slips his arm around behind her lightly, resting it against the small of her back as he smiles, "It's a one piece.. deep blue with lace.. but it doesn't show even near what this one shows." Turning to look at the girl again, he grins softly, "Besides.. you should show this much more often.. it suits you well."
Ali pulls away at first, almost slipping back down into the water, but after a second thought, she doesn't, and she moves back to where she was, or maybe just a little closer to his side. "I'd like to see it, later, if you don't mind. I swim a lot, so…" Cinnamon gaze shifts to look at the small amount of fabric that covers strategic parts of her body, "and I'm not sure I could wear this in the daylight."
P'kar grins as he waits for her to make up her mind, then hugs her a little tighter agianst his side as he nods, "When we get back to shore I'll show you it.." He looks down at the suit for a moment, then shrugs lightly, "Oh well.. it still does look nice on you, and you have the cutest tummy."
Ali blushes again, making her appreciative of the fact that only the moonlight is available to show her face. "I do like it, really," she repeats, stressing the point so he knows that she means it. "I'm just, I guess I just, I guess I'm just a little shy, and people looking at me makes me a little nervous."
P'kar tilts his head as he cuddles her against his side, petting the side of her stomach, then whispers softly, "Does it make you nervous when I look at you? I could stop if you'd like.. it'd be hard to resist the temptation, but I'd do it."
Ali lifts her chin so she looks back at the man that's watching her, and she shakes her head. "No, I don't mind when you look at me." Even when she says it, her words are soft, the reply also being a whisper.
P'kar bites his lower lip, then leans down and places a soft kiss on softer lips, pulling back just as quickly as he keeps watching her.. not sure what to do other than just cuddle the cute other agianst his side. Girls are so much more complicated than boys.
Ali's eyes slip closed as the soft kiss is planted on her lips, and open ever so much more slowly when he pulls away. Still blinking in surprise, she shakes her head, "Why? Why did you…?" Unable to finish her thought, she just looks at him, a more than slightly confused look on her face.
P'kar shrugs softly, looking into the water as he grins softly, "I guess it just felt right.. felt nice.." Looking back at her, he blushes as he nods softly, grinning lightly, "And you didn't run screaming.. so I'm relieved.."
Ali quickly shakes her head, worried he might think the wrong thing, that she didn't like it, perhaps. "No, I liked it, but," she pauses, licking her lips nervously, "but why did you quit?"
P'kar raises a brow, then smiles softly as he slips his other arm around her and pulls her smaller form a little closer so that he can reach with his lips.. kissing very softly, just pressing his lips agianst the girl's, enjoying the soft little touches.
Ali leans into his embrace, lifting her hands laying them gently across his arms as she returns the kiss. Her dark orbs are hidden again as her eyes slip closed, enjoying the moment, letting it last just a little longer before pulling her face ever so slightly away from his, eyes staying shut as if she's afraid to open them too quickly.
P'kar pulls back very slowly, licking his lips lightly as he almost purrs. Opening his eyes slightly, he slides his hand up her back and runs his fingers gently through the damp hair, "Wow.. that's better than the red moon.."
Ali's head lifts into a slow nod before she opens her own eyes once again, and tilts her head tot he side a little to study his face. "That's a compliment, right?" she mumbles softly, still a little unsure of what just happened even if she scoots just slightly closer to him so that her knee touches his.
P'kar giggles lightly as he nods, looking down at the knee, then placing his hand on it and squeezing it softly, "Mm hmm.. I've not kissed anyone like that in a long time." Turning his head, he grins slightly, "You're very good at it.. practice much?"
Ali shakes her head, "I've only ever kissed one person before now, actually," this admission is accompanied by a shifting her gaze toward the water beneath them, not wanting to show just how embarrassed she is by her lack of experience with the whole man 'thing'.
P'kar grins as he gives that cute little knee another squeeze, then motions to the shore and smiles, "We should be getting back.. Misu is calling me for night watch.." He slips off the branch and into the water with a little yelp from the coldness, then starts to swim back to the beach.
Ali nods slowly as she watches him slip down into the water and back toward the shore, but not following. Instead, she lifts her chin so she can gaze at the 'red moon' above them, quietly. Her fingers find their way back to the branch to keep herself steady as she sits there.
P'kar steps up onto the sand, then turns back and smiles softly to himself as he sees her silloutte in the moonlight. He slips his boots back on, then his shirt, then pulls the other swimsuit out of his pack and sets it with the rest of her clothes. Blowing a kiss to the distant figure, he hikes back down the path toward Misu..
Ali's only reply is a small wave before she pushes herself off the branch to fall into the water below, slipping beneath the water's surface for a long moment, only resurfacing once she reaches the water's edge, where she pulls herself out of the water to sit on a nearby rock.
